The Ministerial Alliance of Pauls Valley supports disadvantaged kids in a couple of ways. These efforts are all funded by the Ministerial Alliance Youth fund. Sometimes this is abbreviated, "M.A.Y. fund," leading to some confusion. The first way the M.A.Y. fund helps kids is through the M.A.Y. fund scholarship. This is awarded to a handful of graduating seniors based primarily on need. This award is made in graduation season in the month of May and is paid directly to their account at a college they are attending the following fall.
The other way the M.A.Y. fund supports disadvantaged kids happens in December, not May. Some kids are not in a stable family. Working with the school system so that these kids remain anonymous, the Ministerial Alliance Youth fund pays for a gift of cash at Christmas time; a time they might not be getting gifts from family like other kids in the school system. Often, the Ministerial Alliance is also able to give some sort of gift card, for instance to a restaurant or fast-food place so they can enjoy a treat.
This Sunday, December 8, First Presbyterian is taking up a collection to help fund the Ministerial Alliance Youth fund. Even though it's not May, we hope you'll support the M.A.Y. fund and its ministry to these disadvantaged kids.
