This Sunday has a lot going on:
This is Pentecost Sunday! Pentecost is the day that the Holy Spirit descended on the disciples in the form of tongues of fire on each of their heads. Jesus had told the disciples to wait in Jerusalem until they received the Holy Spirit, and this was it! This is when the group of disciples were empowered by the Holy Spirit to spread the gospel. Because this was the first time the disciples AS A GROUP were empowered by the Holy Spirit, we sometimes call this "birthday of the church." To celebrate Pentecost, we encourage you to wear red this Sunday.
This is the PVHS graduation weekend! We will celebrate our high school graduates both during the worship service and afterwards with a cookie-and-punch reception.
This is the start of "casual summer!" While many people regularly dress casually, starting this Sunday, we will officially asking everyone to dress down for the summer. Men: no ties or suits allowed. Jeans and sneakers are fine. Shorts are fine: if it's hot out and you have a fun summer activity planned after church, dress for it. We ask for a common-sense level of decency: if you would wear it to a restaurant, you can wear it to church this summer.
